UPDATE:

My little guy is here!
He came 3 weeks early. (Much better than 8 weeks early!!)
In case you're wondering, he was born December 16th. 6 lbs 0 oz, 20 inches. Labor was EASY!! Less than 30 minutes!

During the end of my pregnancy I tore my pelvis. (OUCH!) I have to really take it easy so I can heal... This will definitely affect how often I'll teach and when I can start working out. ...Depends on what my doctor orders.

So, I don't know what's happening for Spring semester. As soon as I have any info... I'll post it here.
I don't plan on starting until late-january at the soonest!

FALL classes OVER

Sad to say... but there will be no more classes for the rest of the year.
I had a very close call... my little baby almost came 8 weeks early. I'm fine and so it he, but I'm ordered to be on strict bed-rest until he does come. (Which could be in the next 2 weeks!! Crazy!)

So.... have a great rest of the semester!... If you want to order a DVD e mail me! taylormadefitness@gmail.com Orders must be made by November 25th and will arrive November 30th.
ReMeMbEr!!! All the work you've put in this semester... all the effort, weight and inches lost.... will be GONE if you go 2 weeks without working out. So keep up the hard work! Dont let the busy holiday season ruin all the work you've put in for the past 2 1/2 months!! Commit to yourself or a workout buddy that you're going to continue working out. And if you loved all the free classes you got to come to this semester, make a $10-$20 investment and get a DVD. That way you'll still be able to come to my classes while I'm not teaching for the next 2 months. (and forever!)

NEW SCHEDULE for fall '09

Starting Tuesday Sept 8th

Monday 5-5:50 Step
6-6:30 Abs Lab

...What to expect...

You'll never come to the same class twice since each class is unique. Nothing is choreographed and although we do similar stretches, warm ups and cool downs, the actual work out varies from class to class. Your body will never get used to doing the same routine by coming to my classes on a regular basis. I promise it'll always be as tough as the first time you came! :)

Step: My step class is pretty traditional with basic step combinations. Moderate to high impact. We do about 30 minutes of cardio, then end the class with strength training/resistance.
Kick Box: This is a pretty intense class... but its also fun! We combine traditional moves, jab, cross, upper-cut, hook, blocks, knees and kicks. Moderate to high intensity. Great cardio workout... with some resistance for definition and toning.
Abs Lab: My abs class is only 30 minutes. It goes by really quick... and you get a great workout. Its all abs! Plus, I usually add in some back... since you need a strong back to have strong abs! Some classes will have short bursts of cardio to rev up your metabolism.
Body Pump: One of my favorites!! I love this class. Its a whole body workout and very intense. You get a little bit of everything... lots of variety... and way fun! Intervals of high intensity cardio with resistance weight training. You'll be out of breath and your body will feel weak from head to toe. An awesome work out!

FALL '09

Alright all you fitness junkies... You know I've been missing you and cant wait to get started. I'm still working on getting an exact schedule. BUT I do know classes will start after Labor Day, Sept 7th.
So plan on being there Tuesday Sept 8th.
Thanks for your input. To answer some questions:
All classes are between 4-8pm.
Classes are for Students only. Bootcamps are OPEN to anyone and everyone.
We will definitely have ABS and Kickbox! And probably a lifting/cardio class. The final one will be Plyometrics or Step. Which one?
Okay... As soon as I know the days and times it'll be posted here!
Fliers will be in the PE building by the end of next week as well.
I'll see all of you skinny people soon!!

FaLL SeMeStER!!

Hey, if anyone is checking this, I dont know the fall schedule yet! Classes will start after September 1st. Keep checking the blog for the schedule. But dont be surprised if its not here until after the first week of school! (not my fault! But I will TRY and get it asap)
And I would LOVE, love, LOVE some input on what classes are a must this semester!! Let me know times that work well (evenings), if you're interested in any morning classes, (between 6 and 10 am. Please dont say 6 am!) and if you prefer 30 min, 45 min or 1 hr classes!

Okay everyone! I think I'm going to go ahead and do the fitness DVD! It will be fun!! And I think a lot of you are interested in still working out with me after you've moved on from SUU Aerobics! :)

5 days of intense personal training. Each session lasts 1-1.5 hours. The Bootcamp will have 5-10 people. First come, first served. Register early to get discounted price. What do I eat Before or After a workout?

After a workout you want to eat 2 things: Protein and carbs.

Protein (Which builds muscle.) Tuna fish, egg white and chicken are great sources of protein... BUT, they are whole foods. Whole foods digest slowly and you want something FAST. Whey protein is your best option. And you should have it in liquid form. (which will digest even faster!) So... a protein shake is your best option for an 'after workout meal'. And you want to have it ASAP. Shoot for 30 min to 1 hr after your workout.

The next thing you'll want are carbs. Carbs will be used by your body to restore muscle glycogen. If your post workout meal doesn't contain carbs, your body may actually instead break down muscle tissue for this same purpose. That would be a bad thing. Carbs also create an insulin spike which helps to move nutrients into your muscle tissue quicker.

You don't want 'good carbs' like wheat bread or brown rice because they have fiber (slows digestion) Something like a baked potato would be a better choice. But, again, that is a whole food. If you really want to go extreme, you will want dextrose (which is a form of sugar) I'm not saying to eat cookies!! Dextrose can be found in powder form and mixed into your protein drink. (there may even be drinks out there that already have it. ??) You can buy low-cal protein drinks that are better for women. We are looking for the nutrients but not the calories. (unlike guys who want more cals for bulking up.)

The one thing you DO NOT want after a work out is fat. Fats can be good... and we definitely need them in our diet. But fats slow down digestion and will counter the benefits of eating protein and carbs after a work out.

So what about before?

In general, the closer you get to your workout start time, the fewer calories you should eat. The nutrients that make up those calories should also shift. It takes the body four to six hours to digest fat, about three hours to digest protein and about two hours to digest carbohydrates.

So, here are a few rules of thumb to follow:

*If your workout is four hours away, eat a regular meal that combines protein, fat and carbohydrates, then have a small carbohydrate-rich snack closer to your exercise session to tide you over.
*Three hours before working out, make it a smaller meal and lighten up a bit on the protein and fat.
*Thirty to 90 minutes before exercise, have a snack of easily digested carbohydrates
*If you only have 15 minutes, go for a sports drink or a few Saltines.

The science of nutrition can really play a big role in fitness, weightloss and sculpting your ideal body. But, you have to do what works for you! Someone asked me this question... I thought it was great and I figured others may want to know the answers too!

ID Cards!

Alright everyone! You have got to start bringing your SUU Student ID card to every class. I've welcomed anyone to join us as long as there is room and enough equipment. Well- there is no longer room!! Which is a good and bad thing! I'm so happy to have so much support. But I just don't have room for these HUGE classes. (Some times up to 60 PEOPLE. I cannot believe that many bodies fit into my aerobics room!)
Starting next week (March 2, 2009) Anyone who doesn't have a current SUU ID will not be able to come in. (Unless there is extra equipment!) ....So even if you're a student, without your ID card, you cant come in if we're full.
I'm also working on teaching a 'non-student' class... with a small fee ($1-$2) or a punch pass. I will let you know when or if that happens. It may not be until Fall '09.
For now- BRING YOUR ID CARDS... Every time!! :)

...stretching afterwards...

Two cute girls asked me about stretching after a workout. Someone they spoke to thought it countered your workout if you stretch. (that it would 'un-do' what you just did.) So I wanted to clarify...
stretching is part of the cool down. It important in injury prevention. Research suggests it may not help with muscle soreness after a workout, but that is controversial. I personally think it feels good to stretch after an intense workout! ...Thats why we do it at the end of my classes. (whether it will make you less sore or not!) Warm up is equally important and can prevent injury. Both warm up and stretching increase your physical fitness by improving flexibility and range of motion.

What class is for you?

Step

Step is 45 minutes of basic step combinations. Great cardio workout! We also use weights for sculpting and toning. Moderate intensity.

ABS Lab

Abs Lab is a favorite! Which is why its offered 3 times a week! This quick 30 minute workout is all abs! Perfect for toning and tightening you core. Moderate to high intensity.

Hip Hop


Hip hop and striptease are 2 different classes alternating every other week. They are similar...But Hip hop is more popping to funky hip hop music.
Striptease is like dancing with your girlfriends in high school with a lot of hips and shimmys. Both are fun and a good cardio workout. Moderate intensity and easy to follow choreography. No dance experience is needed.

Plyometrics

The mother of all workouts! This one is tough... But worth it! Athletic training and jump drills designed to make you jump higher, run faster and increase overall fitness. This workout is tough for everyone! From professional athletes to 'The Biggest Loser' contestants. They see results, so can you! 4 30 second drills followed by 30 seconds of rest... HIGH intensity! Big Results!

Kickbox
Everyone has a great time in kickbox. I've been teaching this one for years and its always fun. Simple combinations of jabs, cross, upper cuts, hooks and kicks. Great cardio and sculpting. Moderate intensity.
Body Pump

Body pump is a great lifting class that targets all major muscle groups. Its a fast paced, intense workout that will definitely give you results. High intensity.

Classes usually have 15-40 people. Male and female, young and old.

Spring Semester

Hey everyone! Thanks for your input. As soon as we figure out the schedule I will post it!! FYI. I wont start teaching until January 19th. (I'm going to be in CANCUN!!)
